Today is special.

You have no evidence of this fact, yet the certainty of it resonates through you with the thrumming tone of truth. It brought you out of your bed with - well, perhaps not a smile, but an energy!

Today, you know, something will happen. Something different.

So far, unfortunately, that difference has consisted of little more than a breakfast that tasted slightly better than usual, and a drive to school where your mom only hit one red light. Is Mr. Euss teaching biology with a little more interest than he usually does, or is that just your imagination? Kyle Erz actually showed up to class for once, but he does that sometimes. Maybe when Wyrr Duplae bumped into you this morning, and you handed him back that book you “borrowed,” the scowl he gave you was almost fond? Hm, probably not. He’s way too cool to be associated with a freshman after all.

Light trickles into the dim classroom, and the window seems to be fighting a futile effort to bring some livelihood to Mr. Euss’ lecture room. You watch the soft yellow lines outline nearly invisible swirls of dust, mixing and dancing with the breath of tired students that puffs through.
